Pictures from Puebla

I am going to try to post a few photos every time I post an update to give you a little better picture of the people I am working with here and some faces to remember to pray for. I hope you find it helpful.

Danilo and Ingrid Pauck came to visit us here in Puebla for two weeks as prospective full time missionaries. This German couple was a real encouragement to us during their stay. They spoke perfect English, and thought it was funny that I had 4 years of German in highschool and didn't know more than 10 words. We hope to see them join us sometime next year. In this picture Danilo is helping me replace the driver side window in my car.

Seen here is my friend and neighbor Alberto. He is a sheriff in a local municipality here in the city of Puebla. I've had a lot of good conversations with him, and have been out a few times with him for coffee.

If you ever wondered how you get your clothes washed in Mexico, well, here's how I do it. Raul and his wife Rosi run this laundramat a short walk down the street from my house. Pedro, Raul's brother, is also shown here along with his son Emelio.

My next door neighbors: Dario, Nancy and Carlita. I had been working with Dario once a week on English but have not seen him much the last few weeks because he is completing his masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He is currently a professor of electronics at a local university.

March 20th Update

Wow! I can’t believer it’s been over a month. I’ve been trying to get an email out at least every two weeks, but that just didn’t happen this month. I hope to get back on the 2 week track again for March… ah! March is almost over. The time’s been flying by.

Blessings

I’ll take you all way back to the middle of February. As I was attending a night service at Cristo Victorioso, my car was broken into. Nothing was taken from it because there were two men from another church who just entered the street when it occurred who scared the window breakers away. They came into church and informed me and I came out and checked for myself. Yep… broken passenger side window. I was so thankful that I did not loose anything from the car and that I had brought my bag with my wallet and cell phone inside the church. I drove it home cleaned up the mess and checked the next day where I could get a new glass. Since they just began selling Toyotas in Mexico about 3 years ago, there are no spare parts to be found… especially glass. My parents were going to come down in about 3 days, so I called them up and asked them if they could possibly order the glass and bring it on the plane. Well, that’s exactly what they did. I can’t believe it made it here in one piece! Two-door cars have very large windows for the doors. Nevertheless, the Lord had this all worked out in his plan. I was so thankful. :)

Another praise I want to share with you all is that I invited Alberto, my Friday English student, to our Wednesday night Bible study. He came and enjoyed it, and wants to come back! Praise the Lord.

Mom and Dad’s visit

It was great to have mom and dad down here for a few days. (Besides the fact that they brought down my window, of course.) We had the opportunity to visit many people down here from Cristo Victorioso, my neighborhood, and of course my fellow missionaries as well. I had a great time while they were here. And they now have a much better picture in their mind about what exactly goes on down here.

English Camp

I love working with short term teams that come down from the states. They always seem to put together groups of well prepared, mature believers who come prepared to serve. We had a great week last week of English Camps here in Los Heroes. We had over a hundred people come to the women’s children’s and adult classes. I taught a children’s class in the afternoon and an adult class in the evening. I’ll have to admit, it was hard to control 10 kids for 2 hours each day… not to mention that it was right after they got out of their public school for the day.

The adult class was great. They came prepared to learn, never shouted out the answers, waited their turn, didn’t throw stuff at each other, kick each other, or call each other names. Nor did they need bribes to learn (like a coke, bag of chips or mini soccer ball). I think you get the idea that the adult class went really well.

We made many contacts with our students, especially the adult students, who wanted to continue studying English. Three of my students have already asked me if I could continue working with them on their English.

I can’t say enough good things about the group that came down. They were all college students from Fargo, North Dakota. Very well disciplined, fun to work with, and left no doubt in my mind that they were believers in Christ. The times of worship and music that we had with them each day were so refreshing and uplifting. Being able to understand and laugh at jokes and just have good conversations with each one of them was a real blessing. They were like an extension of my family here in Puebla for a week.

School

I’m finally going back to language school again. I’m actually really looking forward to going back because each day that goes by, I realize more and more how much I don’t know! I guess it’s like that with everything in life… the older you get, the more you realize you don’t know anything.

Prayer

The book of Psalms reassures us that if “the Lord delights in a man’s way, he will make his steps firm.” (Psalm 37:23) I’m nearing the midway point of my two year commitment here in Puebla and have begun to think about what’s next. I have a few ideas in mind, one in particular, which I’ve been talking with people about, and researching. When I come home in June for my brother’s wedding I will have a chance to talk with the missions committee about some of these thoughts that are bouncing around in my head. They’re the kind of things that if I tried to pursue them in my own strength, they would absolutely fall apart… but if it is the Lord’s well, he will open the door, leave it open and guide me through it.

I’d really appreciate your prayers in these next few months for:

1. The Lord to give me clear direction on what He wants me to do in the not-so-distant future.

2. That I would never fall into the temptation of worrying, or being anxious about what’s next.

3. To be content with whatever He calls me to do.

Thank you all for patiently waiting for this update. Or maybe you just forgot, which is fine too :). I appreciate your prayers and encouraging emails so much! I’m really looking forward to July when I’ll get to see some of you come down with the team from CEFC!

God bless you all as you daily walk with Him.
